VMFA 'Friend' Continues Her Support With Estate Gift
Teri Craig Miles has been an impassioned Virginia Museum of Fine Arts supporter since she first moved to Richmond and joined Friends of Art. Over the years, her admiration for the museum has only grown.
“VMFA makes art accessible while preserving and enhancing our community,” says Teri. “There’s truly something here for everyone. The permanent collection is incredibly diverse and the breadth and depth of the special exhibitions add to that richness.”
For Teri, VMFA’s broad appeal goes beyond what’s on view.
“The museum is always finding new and innovative ways to engage with its visitors. The sketching room in the middle of The Art of the Flower got folks to interact and draw the flowers, (see video) while ArtCycle gave children and adults a chance to pedal through the galleries.”
Teri’s recent decision to include VMFA in her estate plan honors her long history with the museum and those who experienced it with her.
“My parents and I always enjoyed coming here together; we rarely missed an opening,” she says. “After my father passed away, Mother said, ‘I wouldn’t mind if you gave something to the museum.’ Although we never talked about it again, the seed was planted. Making this gift—a bequest to keep art alive—has brought a sense of contentment and even joy.”
